Mr. Logan newhouse
Logan Newhouse is a percussion educator, arranger, and performer coming to Boone from Orlando, FL. Prior to his appointment at Appalachian State University, he served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Central Florida for two years. In this role, Logan was responsible for co-teaching and arranging music for the Marching Knights Drumline, as well as taking care of logistical tasks for every aspect of the UCF Band area. In addition to his duties with UCF Bands, he was active in the percussion studio coaching and performing in ensembles, helping plan and execute concert logistics, and teaching the Percussion Techniques course to undergraduate students. While in Orlando, Logan has served as the Program Coordinator for the UCF Percussion Summer Institute. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he has been an active adjudicator, clinician, and arranger for schools across central Florida.
Logan has been a featured performer with the Iowa Summer Music Camps, Iowa Percussion Ensemble, University of Central Florida Percussion Summer Institute, and more. He also has also performed professionally with the Bach Festival Society of Winter Park, the Orlando New Music Society, and the Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra. Most recently, he performed as one of two soloists on Ivan Treviño’s double percussion concerto, “Run to the Light” with the Hagerty High School Wind Ensemble in Orlando.
Logan graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Master of Arts degree in Percussion Performance. While at UCF, he studied with Thad Anderson, Kirk Gay, and Jeff Moore. Prior to his time in Orlando, Logan received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education and a Bachelor of Music degree in Percussion Performance from the University of Iowa, where he studied with Dan Moore. Through these studies, he has become passionate about all aspects of percussion and looks to bring this energy to his role at Appalachian State University.
